SASSA manages social grant payments in South Africa, which are cash transfers provided by the government to support vulnerable and disadvantaged members of society.

These grants include old age pension, disability grant, child support grant, foster child grant, and care dependency grant.

Beneficiaries receive monthly payments through gold cards specially designed for social grant payments in partnership with Postbank.

Relief for beneficiaries worried about expiring cards

The extension of expired card validity until 31 December 2023 is a welcome development for many beneficiaries who were worried about their SASSA Gold cards expiring in April 2023. They can continue using their cards for transactions at ATMs and participating retailers without any interruption.

PASA’s decision to ensure uninterrupted monthly payments

PASA made this decision as it is responsible for regulating payment systems in South Africa and wants to ensure that social grant beneficiaries receive uninterrupted monthly payments without any hassle or inconvenience.

SASSA has also reassured beneficiaries that new cards will be issued to them in due course, so there’s no need to worry about missing out on grant payments. Rest assured; you can continue using your expired card until the new one arrives.
