Many people in South Africa depend on SASSA grants to buy food, pay school fees, and care for their families. But not everyone can travel far to SASSA offices or stand in long queues. That’s why SASSA is coming closer to YOU!
On Friday, 27 June 2025, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) will hold a special SASSA Outreach Programme at Gugulethu Community Hall in Khutsong Ext 4. This event will run from 08h00 to 16h00, and it’s open to everyone who needs help with grants, documents, or card changes.
Let’s take a closer look at what this programme is all about and how you can benefit from it.
What Is the SASSA Outreach Programme?
The SASSA Outreach Programme is a free service where SASSA brings their help directly to communities. Instead of you going to SASSA, they come to you.
They will:
Help you apply for child support grants (especially for babies aged 0–2)
Offer CSG Top-Up for orphans and vulnerable children
Help with all types of grant applications and enquiries
Assist with SRD R370 grant issues
Allow you to swap your old SASSA card for a new one

Why You Should Attend
You don’t have to wait in line at busy offices or pay for taxis to town. This event brings help right to your doorstep. SASSA staff will assist you one-on-one so that your questions are answered clearly.
Here’s what you can do:
Apply for new grants
Ask about payment problems
Change your old SASSA Gold Card to a safer card
Learn what kind of grant you qualify for
This is especially helpful for grandparents, unemployed youth, caregivers, and parents of small children.
What You Must Bring
To make things go smoothly, you need to bring the right documents. Here’s a checklist:
South African ID (green book or smart card)
Child’s birth certificate (for child grants)
Marriage certificate or divorce decree (if needed)
Death certificate of a parent (for orphans or CSG Top-Up)
Proof of income or unemployment (like a payslip or affidavit)
3-months bank statement (if you have a bank account)
Your old SASSA card (if you want to change it)
If you’re not sure what to bring, just take everything you have – it’s better to be over-prepared.
Types of Grants You Can Apply For
At the Outreach Programme, SASSA will help you with all kinds of grants, including:
Old Age Grant – For people 60 years and older
Disability Grant – For those who are unable to work due to illness
Child Support Grant (CSG) – For children up to 18 years
Foster Child Grant – For children under foster care
Care Dependency Grant – For children with serious disabilities
War Veterans’ Grant – For veterans of World War II or the Korean War
SRD R370 Grant – For unemployed adults with no income
CSG Top-Up – Extra Support for Orphans
This Outreach will also help you apply for the Child Support Grant Top-Up. This is extra money for children who have lost both parents or are only raised by one parent.
You will need:
Death certificates of the parents
Affidavit explaining who is caring for the child
Child’s birth certificate
This grant helps caregivers who look after orphans or vulnerable children in their homes (kinship care).
Card Swaps – Upgrade Your SASSA Card
If you still use the old SASSA Gold Card, you can swap it on the day. Postbank is helping SASSA issue new, safer cards. These new cards will make it easier for you to collect your money and avoid scams.
Just bring:
Your old card
Your ID book or smart card
How to Prepare
Get your documents ready a few days before
Pack your ID, bank statements, and child documents
Charge your phone
Bring water and a snack – it might be a long day

What If You Can’t Read or Write?
Don’t worry. The SASSA team is there to help you. You can also bring a friend or family member to assist. Officials will explain everything in easy language and help you fill in the forms.
