Latest developments as 5 million SASSA R350 SRD grant applications approved
The statement reveals that approximately 60% of people who applied for the R350 grant are youth, which correlates with the youth unemployment rate of 63%. Of all the applicants about 5% of them hold tertiary qualifications.
SASSA is extremely concerned about the high unemployment rate in South Africa mostly amongst the youth, thus, the agency remains committed to playing its part in fighting the scourge of unemployment. In the past months, the agency has made progress with issuing payments for this special grant.
To increase the number of approved applicants, SASSA has amended some of its qualifying criteria to suit the majority of applicants. They have increased the maximum allowable income from R350 to the food poverty line of R624.
SASSA would like to remind aspiring applicants that the application for the Covid-19 SRD is strictly online and not at the SASSA offices.
