Have you applied for the Covid-19 SRD grant and your application was unsuccessful?

There are various reasons why your application might have been declined.

Regardless of the reason, if you disagree with the outcome, you are eligible to appeal.

You have 30 days to submit an appeal for the SASSA R350 SRD grant through the DSD Independent Tribunal Website https://srd.dsd.gov.za if you have received a notification that your application was rejected.

Before you start with the appeal process, please check that the information you submitted to SASSA is complete and correct. This will be shown on the SRD DSD Appeal Electronic Platform.

If necessary, you can update your contact information here: https://srd.dsd.gov.za/sc19/contact. This is very important to note because if your appeal is successful, payment will have to be made. So, your contact details will have to be correct.

How to Submit an a SASSA Status Check Appeal for the SASSA R350 

You can submit an a SASSA status check appeal by following these steps:

  • Visit the srd.dsd.gov.za site and click on the green bar written “click here to lodge an appeal or check appeal status”
  • Enter your ID Number and phone number used to submit an application and click on send pin.
  • Enter the pin you would have received on your phone and click on submit.

The Independent Tribunal will review and inform you of the outcome of your appeal electronically, within 60 – 90 days from the lodging of the appeal.

As the Covid-19 SRD is re-evaluated by SASSA and paid monthly, to confirm that a person is still in need of the Covid-19 SRD, an appeal application needs to be lodged in relation to each month where a person is rejected by SASSA.

The decision of the Independent Tribunal will accordingly only be in respect of the specific month to which the appeal relates.

Rejected applicants are advised to lodge an appeal as soon as they receive a rejected notification from SASSA and not delay.

How to do an Appeal for SASSA R350 SRD Grant

To check the status of your SASSA appeal for SRD R350 payments, follow these steps:

  • Go to the SRD website and scroll down to the “Lodging an Appeal” section.
  • Click on the link to the DSD appeals website: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/
  • Click on the green bar that says, “Click here to lodge an appeal or check appeal status”.
  • Enter your ID number and the phone number that you used when applying.
  • Click on “send pin” and wait for the verification code to arrive via SMS.
  • Once you receive the code, enter it and submit your request.
  • Choose the month that you would like to check for the R350 grant.
  • The status of your appeal will be displayed, indicating whether it has been approved, declined, or is still pending.

Note that no further internal appeals are allowed, and the ruling of the Independent Tribunal is final. However, in accordance with the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act of 2000, you have 180 days from the date of the Independent Tribunal’s judgment to file an appeal with the High Court for judicial review.
