Social grant increase in 2023 – The South African Social Security Agency announced that social grants will increases in April 2023 and again in October 2023. This is a great move as a lot of things have become more and more expensive.
2023 Social Grant Increase Breakdown
Here is a breakdown of how each social grant will increase in April 2023 and again in October 2023:
Old Age Grant
Pensioners will see an increase of R90 in their monthly grants. Older persons who are 75 years or older will receive an increase from R2,010 to R2,100 starting from 1 April 2023. While those who are below the age of 75 will also get an increase from R1,990 to R2,080 during the same period.
On 1 October 2023, Old Age Grant will increase by an additional R10. So, 75 years or older citizens, will receive R2,110 per month, and 75 years and below, you’ll receive R2,090 per month.
Disability Grant
Starting from 1 April 2023, the disability grant will increase from R1,990 to R2,080. And that’s not all! On 1 October 2023, it will further increase bringing it to R2,090 per month.
Child Support Grant
Child support grant recipients will also receive an increase of R20 per month, bringing the total to R500 per month. In October 2023, it will further increase to R510. This increase is intended to assist caregivers in providing for the basic needs of their children, such as food, clothing, and education.
Foster Care Child Grant
Foster care grant recipients will see an increase from R1,070 to R1,120 starting from 1 April 2023. On 1 October 2023, Foster Child Grant will receive an additional increase, bringing it to R1,130 per month.
Care Dependency Grant
Effective April 1, 2023, beneficiaries of the Care Dependency Grant will see an increase in their payments from R1,990 to R2,080. Furthermore, starting from October 1, 2023, the amount will be further increased to R2,090.
Grant-in-aid
As of April 1, 2023, beneficiaries of the Grant-in-aid will experience a raise in their payments, with the amount increasing from R480 to R500. Additionally, commencing October 1, 2023, the payment will be further augmented to R510.
War Veterans Grant
The War Veterans Grant beneficiaries will see an increase in their payments, starting from April 1, 2023, with the amount rising from R2,010 to R2,100. Furthermore, effective October 1, 2023, the payment will be further raised to R2,110.
Top-up Child Support Grant
The Top-up Child Support Grant, which provides additional assistance to caregivers of children receiving the Child Support Grant, will see an increase in its payment. As of April 1, 2023, the amount will rise from R240 to R250, and further increase to R260 starting from October 1, 2023.
