The City of Ekurhuleni wishes to inform residents and businesses of a planned water interruption scheduled for Friday, 13 December 2025, due to essential maintenance work by Rand Water at the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant.
The maintenance is scheduled to take place from 08:00 to 16:00, and is expected to affect several areas within the metro during this period.

Areas Affected by Planned Water Interruption
The interruption will affect, but is not limited to, the following areas:
- Benoni and Wattville
- Springs, Brakpan and KwaThema
- Vosloorus and Eden Park
- Tsakani
- Germiston and Boksburg
Residents in these areas may experience low water pressure or complete water outages during the maintenance period.
Water Tanker Support
The City of Ekurhuleni has made arrangements for water tanker services to assist affected communities during the interruption. Residents are encouraged to liaise with their ward councillors and follow official City communication platforms for real-time updates on tanker deployment.
Restoration of Supply

- Allow taps to run for a few minutes once supply returns.
- Use water with caution if it appears discoloured.
- Report any burst pipes or leaks to the City’s customer care centres.
Purpose of the Maintenance

Preparation Measures
Residents, businesses, institutions and all water users in the affected areas are strongly urged to implement the following precautionary measures ahead of the planned water interruption in order to minimise inconvenience and ensure health and safety during the outage period:
1. Store Adequate Water in Advance
Residents are advised to store sufficient water in clean, sealed containers for essential household use, including drinking, cooking, washing and sanitation. Stored water should be kept in a cool, hygienic place and labelled for safe use. Households are encouraged to store enough water to last the full duration of the interruption.
2. Practice Water Conservation
All residents are urged to use water sparingly in the days leading up to and during the maintenance period. Non-essential water usage such as washing vehicles, watering gardens, filling swimming pools and outdoor cleaning should be postponed until normal supply has been fully restored.
3. Prioritise Hygiene and Sanitation Needs
Water set aside for hygiene purposes should be reserved strictly for critical uses such as handwashing, food preparation and toilet flushing. Residents may also consider keeping hand sanitisers and wipes readily available to maintain hygiene standards during the outage.
4. Protect Household Appliances and Plumbing
To prevent potential damage caused by pressure fluctuations when water supply is restored, residents are advised to switch off geysers, irrigation systems, borehole pumps and water-dependent appliances during the period of the interruption. Appliances should only be switched back on once water supply has stabilised.
5. Guidance for Businesses and Institutions
Businesses, healthcare facilities, schools, early childhood centres, and other institutions are advised to ensure that on-site water storage is sufficient to meet at least a full day’s operational demand. Facilities that rely on water pressure for service delivery are encouraged to have contingency plans in place to avoid service disruptions and ensure the safety of staff, learners, patients and customers.
The City of Ekurhuleni sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks residents for their cooperation as critical maintenance is carried out to secure long-term water supply reliability.
For further updates and enquiries, residents are encouraged to follow official City of Ekurhuleni communication channels and ward-based notices.
