Millions of South Africans will benefit from SASSA Grant Increases coming into effect in April 2026, following the announcement in the national budget.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana confirmed that government has allocated R292.8 billion for social grants in the 2026/2027 financial year, ensuring continued financial support for vulnerable individuals and families.

These increases will help pensioners, persons with disabilities, caregivers, and families cope with rising living costs.

SASSA Grant New Amounts from April 2026

The following grant increases will take effect from April 2026:

Older Persons, Disability and Related Grants

  • Old Age Grant: increases by R80 to R2 400 per month
  • Disability Grant: increases by R80 to R2 400 per month
  • Care Dependency Grant: increases by R80 to R2 400 per month
  • War Veterans Grant: increases by R80 to R2 420 per month

These grants support elderly citizens and people who are unable to work due to medical conditions.

Child and Caregiver Grant Increases

Families and caregivers will also benefit from the SASSA grant increases:

  • Foster Care Grant:
    • Increases by R40 to R1 290 per month in April 2026
    • Further increases by R10 to R1 300 per month in October 2026
  • Child Support Grant: increases by R20 to R580 per month
  • Grant-in-Aid: increases by R20 to R580 per month

SRD Grant Will Not Increase in 2026

While most grants are increasing, the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant will remain unchanged.

Minister Enoch Godongwana confirmed that the SRD grant will stay at:

This means SRD beneficiaries will continue receiving the same payment amount in the 2026/2027 financial year.
