Following the lifting of the Disaster Management Act by the government in April 2022 wherein the processing of the R350 covid grant applications was stopped, a new order has been introduced by the Department of Social Development to facilitate the continuation of the R350 grant.

SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi stated that the R350 grant will now be provided under the Social Assistant Act which was proclaimed on the 22nd of April 2022.

SASSA officially announced on their social media pages about the SASSA R350 SRD grant reapplication process, encouraging new and old beneficiaries to re-apply. This comes with a few changes to the application process as requirements are tighter.

Since the government has lifted the Disaster Management Act, they have stopped processing the R350 covid grant applications to financially support poor people in the country.

There will be no R350 grant from May 2022 going forward but don’t lose hope, the government will make another plan to assist you with the necessary relief funds.

Following the unfortunate floods in KwaZulu-Natal these past weeks, SASSA released a statement announcing that there is a Social Relief of Distress Grant for Disasters available for all that have been affected by the current disaster.

SASSA is offering R1,200 food vouchers per household. This is a temporary provision and applies to mainly the people that were affected and unable to meet their family’s basic needs.

They are also offering R3,960 (R1,980 x 2) food vouchers or in cash to households that have lost family members due to the disaster. School uniforms will also be provided to learners that lost their uniforms during the disaster, R2,700 for girls, and R2 500 for boys.
