Postbank has issued a critical warning to all social grant beneficiaries who receive their payments through Postbank Black Cards and SASSA Gold Cards.

With increasing reports of fraud scams targeting these cards, it’s important that beneficiaries stay alert and take steps to protect their personal information, especially their PINs.

What is Happening?

Fraudsters pretending to be Postbank officials have been visiting people’s homes, claiming that there is a problem with their grant cards. They try to trick beneficiaries into handing over their cards and PIN numbers, threatening that future grant payments will be stopped if they don’t comply. This is a scam designed to steal money from vulnerable people.

Postbank’s Assurance

Postbank assures all beneficiaries that there is no issue that requires fixing on your cards. Both the Postbank Black Card and the SASSA Gold Card will continue to work beyond 31 May 2025. You do not have to share your PIN or card details with anyone, no matter what they say.

How to Spot Fraudsters

Be wary of anyone who:

  • Shows up unannounced or without an appointment.

  • Asks for your card PIN number.

  • Wears what looks like Postbank uniforms or uses branded cars but cannot provide proper identification.

What Should You Do?

If someone pretending to be from Postbank visits your home:

  • Quietly tell your neighbours and community about the visit.

  • Contact the police to report the incident.

  • Report it directly to Postbank on 0800 53 54 55.

Protect Your PIN

Your PIN is personal and private:

  • Never share your PIN with anyone, even officials.

  • Postbank will never ask for your PIN.

  • Memorize your PIN. If you must write it down, keep it somewhere safe, separate from your card.
