SASSA WELCOMES SARB’S DECISION TO ALLOW CONTINUED USE OF THE GOLD CARD
28 March 2025
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is pleased to announce that the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) has decided to allow beneficiaries to continue using their SASSA Gold Cards until all cards are successfully replaced.
This decision follows several discussions between SASSA and Postbank regarding various issues, including alternative payment options for beneficiaries who have not yet switched to the Postbank Black Card.
The choice made by SARB is in the best interest of all beneficiaries, ensuring their safety and granting them continued access to their social grants. It is designed to ease any potential concerns, ensuring a smoother transition during this time.
The Acting Chief Executive Officer of SASSA, Mr. Themba Matlou, expressed his support for this decision and acknowledged the importance of the resolutions taken by banking authorities such as SARB. He urged all Gold Card holders not to delay and to promptly change their cards to the Postbank Black Card.
“We strongly encourage our beneficiaries to take advantage of this opportunity and not wait until the last minute, as doing so may lead to unnecessary delays and inconvenience. From the outset, we have been listening closely to the concerns of our beneficiaries, and we fully understand their frustrations. We hope this will motivate you to act promptly and change your card,” said Mr. Matlou.
