Good news for South African grant recipients! The validity of expired SASSA/Postbank gold cards has been extended till year-end.
If you have a SASSA/Postbank gold card that is expiring on 31 March 2023 (03/2023), you will need to take action to exchange it for a new card.
The South African Post Bank (SAPO) has outlined a plan for this exchange process, which varies depending on the type of grant you are receiving.
The South African Post Office (SAPO) released a statement stating that the R350 SRD grant will no longer be paid out from their branches. This is an unforeseen setback for SASSA as the reapplication process opened late last month and payments for May are already delayed.
Regardless, SAPO’s spokesperson Johan Kruger mentioned that the move for SA Post Office to stop paying the R350 grant will alleviate the long queues at their branches.
Amidst the South African Post Office’s provisional liquidation, the South African Social Security Agency’s (SASSA) representative, Paseka Letsatsi, gave beneficiaries the reassurance that their grants will still be distributed.
The Post Office encountered some financial troubles recently, resulting in debts exceeding R4.4 billion and an asset deficit of R4 billion, per their reports for 2021/2022.
To ensure there is no disruption to grant beneficiaries, Letsatsi has announced the implementation of a contingency plan.
